As a lover of old authentic buildings, sometimes I ask myself why there are not so many new mansions realized. That you have on one side the beautiful authentic character of an old mansion, while modern materials are used in new construction.
That is why I was particularly impressed by the project on the Prinsengracht in Amsterdam Kodde Architects. After recording and demolition of the interior of the old building, the state was so bad, so it was only possible to retain the original façade. Fortunately, the end result was the most important for the client, and it was no problem to the budget as well as the schedule completely to throw.
Inspired by a sturdy loft
The new plan was to create completely new building behind the original façade. In consultation with the client, the architects have created a special design inspired by a cool loft. In total, the building is equipped with no less than five floors, which are connected by a long main staircase. A sturdy black steel industrial staircase with oak steps.
However, the stairs to the lower floor are the concrete steps. Like the cool concrete floor on the same floor. All other floors have got a nice warm oak floor.
